"Radical Fashion Exhibition at Classy Seconds"

"Radical Fashion," the Capital City Arts Initiative's latest art in public project is an exhibition of work by avant-garde fashion designers. The exhibition, at Classy Seconds in Carson City, opens September 13 and continues through October 10.

Classy Seconds, located at 411 Hot Springs Road, is a thrift store benefitting Advocates to End Domestic Violence, a local non-profit social service agency that provides a wide variety of services designed to protect and support battered women and their children.

Participating designers include: Milan del Vecchio, who

Claire Ponn is a Nevada native heavily influenced by fashion, photography, music and travel. Her interest in fashion led to the creation of "Siren Soles," a custom footwear enterprise, and a line of jewelry. In August she will receive a dual degree from UNR in Advertising and Art History.

Lindsey Jackson received her BFA from Sierra Nevada College. She is currently in the final year of the Master of Fine Arts program at Otis College of Art & Design. In conjunction with her studies she is apprenticing with a tatoo artist. Integrating tatoos and fashion design, Ms. Jackson comments: "I am attempting to fuse low and high brow art."

Kodi Fujii

Ms. Fujii comments: "I try to make things you can't get anywhere else, things with bright colors and fresh ideas. Things so versatile you can wear them to the beach, out on the town or in a moshpit."

In conjunction with the exhibition, CCAI is presenting a series of hands-on, 'DIY' workshops at "CCAI Downtown!," the arts organization's new temporary gallery space at the northeast corner of Curry and Third Streets in Carson City. The workshops will take place on Saturdays throughout August and September from one to five p.m.

The workshops, suitable for all levels, will introduce participants to the possibilities of one-off, designed and altered clothing. There is no fee and materials will be provided. Pre-regististration is encouraged but not required.

Participants can pre-register by emailing Christina at
