Nevada Neighbors XI: "Virtual Neighbors: New Media at the Electronic Frontier"

Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative’s lecture series on contemporary art practice, presents its eleventh event with "Virtual Neighbors: New Media at the Electronic Frontier" a lecture/presentation by curator Sarah Cook of Newcastle, England. The presentation will take place at the Carson City Library on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. An informal reception at the library immediately precedes her talk beginning at 6:15 p.m.

The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.

Ms. Cook will showcase work by artists working online in the fascinating and emerging field of 'net art.' In particular she will look at the use of blogs and web-cams in art, and discuss how international net-based artists have used techniques of recycling, chance, and surveillance in their work.

Sarah Cook is an independent new media curator and post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Sunderland in northern England. Ms. Cook works in both the UK and Canada, curating exhibitions, organizing educational projects, editing publications and managing artists’ residencies. She has lectured and published widely on art, new media and curatorial practice.
