Nevada Neighbors Series lecture/presentation by Arizona State University Art Museum Curator John Spiak

Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative’s lecture series on contemporary art practice in the West, continues in February with "Desert Survival: Arizona Artists," a slide lecture presentation by Arizona State University Art Museum Curator John Spiak. The presentation will take place at the Carson City Library on Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. There will be a reception for Mr. Spiak immediately preceding his talk at the library beginning at 6:15 p.m.

The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.

Mr. Spiak's talk will focus on the ways artists in Arizona work and live. He will discuss why artists settle in Phoenix and how life for them there differs from Los Angeles and New York, the traditional centers of contemporary art in America. His presentation will feature a look at work by some Arizona's most exciting artists.

John Spiak is the Curatorial Museum Specialist for the Arizona State University Art Museum. He received his B.A. from California State University
Domingez Hills in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology. He spent six years working at a southern California gallery before joining the ASU Art Museum staff in 1994. His duties have included a wide range of activities including acting as curator of exhibitions, curator of education and publication coordinator for museum catalogues. He is also the founding director of the museum's annual short film and video festival.
