Nevada Neighbors Series Returns with lecture/presentation by "Wide World Exhibitions" Curator Julie Deamer

Los Angeles-based curator Julie Deamer will present "Los Angeles Arts on the Global Stage," a slide lecture presentation at the Carson City Library on Wednesday, February 4 at 7:00 p.m. The event continues the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] series "Nevada Neighbors: contemporary art practice in the West." There will be a reception for Ms. Deamer immediately preceding her talk at the library beginning at 6:15 p.m. The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.

In what promises to be an exciting presentation Ms. Deamer will discuss the the unique attributes of the Los Angeles' cultural landscapework, highlighting the work of artists with whom she has worked. As the second largest metropolitan area in the nation, Los Angeles is the home to a culturally diverse community of artists and potential art audiences. As founding director of "Wide World Exhibitions," an artist-centered organization, Ms. Deamer develops curatorial projects encouraging international collaboration.

Ms. Deamer has been working within the field of contemporary visual art for eight years as a gallery owner, independent curator, writer and development consultant. In the early nineties, she earned a bachelor's degree in art history from San Francisco State University and studied contemporary art at Concordia University in Montreal, and in art history and theory at Laval University in Quebec City. She has worked with hundreds of artists, mounted numerous exhibitions, receiving broad public acknowledgment and extensive critical attention for her professional achievements as a curator and artistic director. Her reputation is grounded in the collaborative relationships she develops with contemporary visual artists and the inventive exhibitions and events that she initiates. Julie states, "I take great pleasure in promoting and organizing adventurous, compelling original visual art projects that push meaning and understanding forward in today's visual culture."

In addition to her public talk, Ms. Deamer will meet with local artists to discuss their work during her visit to northern Nevada.
