FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"On the Street: Artists and Community Practice" [Nevada Neighbors XVII]

Nevada Neighbors, Capital City Arts Initiative’s lecture series on contemporary art, returns on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, with "On the Street: Artists and Community Practice," a talk by Courtney Fink. Ms Fink is the director of Southern Exposure, the visionary San Francisco artists organization.

The lecture will take place at the Carson City Library at 7:00 p.m. There will be a reception at the library prior to her talk beginning at 6:15 p.m. The library
is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.

The talk will focus on the history and programs of Southern Exposure. "Artist-centered organizations play a critical role in the national arts ecology,” comments Ms. Fink. “They are the incubators of both cutting edge art and social ideas.” Her talk will feature examples of some of the most exciting experimental work originating in the Bay Area.

Founded in 1974, Southern Exposure, supports emerging artists and arts educators through exhibitions, education programs, events, talks and special events.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Fink worked at the Franklin Furnace in New York and Capp Street Project in the Bay Area. She is also an artist, writer, and curator. She has lectured at Stanford University, Mills College, California College of the Arts and the San Francisco Art Institute.
