"True North: Art in Canada"

Nevada Neighbors, the Capital City Arts Initiative's ongoing series of presentations on contemporary art, will feature Brenda Cleniuk on Wednesday, February 20 in "True North: Art in Canada," a talk at the Carson City Library at 7:00 p.m. There will be an informal reception for Ms. Cleniuk at the library at 6:15 preceding her talk.

The library is located at 900 North Roop Street. The lecture and reception are free and the public is cordially invited.

Brenda Cleniuk is the director of Neutral Ground, a major center for experimental art in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. In her talk, Ms. Cleniuk will introduce a diverse range of Canadian artists and projects presented at Neutral Ground.

Ms. Cleniuk
holds Bachelor degrees in Art History, English Literature, and Psychology from the University of Regina. She has curated projects with artists from Canada, Mexico, the United States, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, and has served on juries for the Canada Council for the Arts, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Cultural Human Resources Council.

In 1996, she co-founded the Soil Digital Media Suite, a lab for new media creation. She has also initiated a series of performance mini festivals in Regina with the goal to building a festival and symposium program in the city. Her writing has been published in Caught in the Act (2004, YYZ Books, Toronto) and ISEA Cartographies, 1999. She has spoken previously at the Banff New Media Institute, Banff Centre, Alberta, and "LIVE 2007 Biennale" in Vancouver, British Columbia.


The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area's diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and its web site.
